Glagolitic Lane

Follow the traces of Croatian literacy in Istria! The Glagolitic script was used in Croatia until the 19th century. The route from Roč to Hum includes 11 monuments dedicated to the script, and it is the perfect excuse to discover the smallest ‘town’ in the world, Hum, and enjoy the Istrian countryside along the way.

Roman trail

Discover the remnants of the former Roman empire in Istria! Take a walking tour in the town of Pula, which abounds in monuments from ancient times. Its most famous sight is Arena, the well-preserved amphitheatre and the 6th largest of its kind in the world. Other attractions include the Temple of Augustus and the Triumphal Arch of Sergius.

Not far from Pula, you can also go to the multimedia Archaeological Park Vižula near Medulin and enjoy visualizations of a former Roman villa. Visiting Brijuni National Park, don’t miss the archaeological sites from the Roman times in Verige Bay. Heading north, stop by Poreč, a perfect example of Roman urban architecture with its streets and remains of temples.

Magical fortresses

Experience the mystery of forts and castles in Istria! Go back to medieval times at the Morosini-Grimani Castle in Svetvinčenat. Some 10 km away you can also visit Dvigrad ruins, a perfect representation of a castle town. In the very heart of the peninsula, don’t miss the Pazin castle, the best preserved medieval fortress.
