Traditional Istrian desserts – get to know the sweet side of Istria!
Do you enjoy desserts and want to try the traditional Istrian ones? In the taverns that still nurture the local tradition, you will be able to taste the following desserts that our grandmothers prepared for various celebrations and gatherings:
Cukerančići
Cukerančići, better known as Pazin’s Cukerančići, are a traditional Istrian dessert specific to central Istria and the Pazin region. If you find yourself at a wedding, baptism or confirmation, Cukerančići are an unavoidable cookie that you will find on the table! We hope that you will not have to wait for weddings in Istria to taste them, because you will certainly have the opportunity to taste them in one of the taverns.
Kroštule
If you notice a dessert of an unusual shape on the table during the celebrations in Istria – it is certainly the Kroštula. Kroštule will win you over with their crunchiness and delicious taste, in addition to its unusual shape.
Fritule
Unlike Cukerančići and Kroštule, Fritule are much easier to find because they’re sold on stalls in city centers. The mixture can be prepared without any additives, or with the addition of raisins, grated apples, candied fruit…
