Istria is a popular tourist destination not only because of its beautiful beaches and historic towns, but also because it offers fantastic hiking opportunities. There are numerous hiking trails in Istria – and one of them is the hike to the top of Žbevnica.
The hike to the top of Žbevnica takes a little more than two hours. The trail has steep sections, but isn’t too difficult for most hikers. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular view of Istria and its coast (also a good place for a picnic!). When the bora is blowing and the sky is clear, you can see the Italian Alps in the distance!
How to get there?
The easier climb starts at the road-pass between Brest and Trstenik, where a gravel road branches and leads to the transmitter (just a 30 minutes’ walk). The walk from the transmitter to the summit also takes 30 minutes, and the path is marked.
If you’re looking for a good workout in the beautiful nature of Istria, this hike is for you. It’s not for beginners, but it’s ideal if you’re looking for a workout that will make your legs burn and your heart beat while you climb steep hills and hike over rocky paths.
