A trip to central Istria – What to visit and see
Central Istria is undoubtedly one of the areas worth visiting in Croatia. Tourists often ignore it and gravitate towards the more visited coastal area (which is also beautiful), but in central Istria you can find many attractions that make it worth a visit. We are happy to share with you some of our favourite attractions that you can add to your itinerary during your next trip to Croatia.
Pazin
Pazin, a town located in the heart of the peninsula and a perfect starting point for exploring central Istria, has a lot to offer to its visitors. Start the tour with a visit to Pazin Castle and get to know its history, then continue the exploration to the Pazin Cave, where you can walk along the marked path or fly over it with a zip line. Besides the fact that you can take a walk along the Pazin Cave, there is also an interesting legend about its origin, so we definitely invite you to ask local residents about its story! Finish exploring the city by visiting the Franciscan Monastery, and then take a well-deserved rest by the Pazinčica stream.
Gračišće
The next stop on our excursion is Gračišće, where you can explore the extremely well-preserved historical urban structure of the place, which is also beautiful for sightseeing. You will enjoy the incredible view from the city as well as sights such as the late Gothic Church of the Mother of God, the Chapel of St. Anthony and the church of St. Euphemia.
Tinjan
At the end of this excursion, we definitely recommend that you visit Tinjan, where, in addition to learning all about dry-walls and dry-walled field huts, better known as kažuni, you will also enjoy top gastronomic delicacies such as the Istrian prosciutto.
